I am a person who strides to do their best in their job in helping and assisting others. I continually try to learn new things that will asssist me in my endeavors.
Some of the changes I would make for my library includes a sign at road to make it easier for people to find it, and have an assistant at less 2 days a week. To improve my image as a library director I would like to work on my communication skills.

My experiences attending PLMI
I found attending the Public Library Management Institute to be an enjoyable experience. There were days I stressed out because some of our attendees seemed to have more knowledge than I did, then I remembered that's why I'm here, to learn.
I didn't meet one person who wasn't super nice and friendly, this included the people in our class and the staff at the Fall Creek Falls Inn. Everyone was always willing to help in any way they could which is just another example of teamwork. The ones who knew skills like blogging were willing to help out the ones who needed a little help, like myself, who had never done a blog. A lady on the staff of the inn was very gracious to unlock a bathrrom door that had accidently been locked during the night so a certain person could take a shower and get ready for class that day. Yeah, it was me.
I hope everyone enjoyed their stay and doesn't get discouraged. I know we can do it , just remember the little caboose saying, I think I can, I think I can.

Teaching topic: Control
There is a difference between control and controlling. A good leader knows the difference. If leaders are liked and respected they will have the support of their staff. Our team today showed this I believe. No one tried controlling the others, it was a team effort and everyone contributed to it, which made it a success.
What I learned about someone else's topic
I learned that organization is essential for a library . You need a plan to make any organization successful. The team that did this teaching topic today showed great teamwork and skills in their presentation.

Surprised at the effect
Today Cathy Seal, our presenter , had us to close our eyes and remember something that had touched us emotionally at our library. I remembered a lady who had been coming to the library for years with her daughter.
She came in the library with her hands shaking and trembling. She told me she had come from the doctor's office and he told her she had terminal cancer and had a short time to live. She told me how much she had enjoyed coming to the library over the years and thanked me for always being so nice to her.
I would have to say what inspired me was her courage. She had stopped by to fax some papers to another doctor. I faxed them for her and didn't charge her because I knew she would need her money for medical expenses to come. There are some things much more important than money.

Amazing lady
Today I met a most amazing lady. We struck up a conversation and I found out her name was Gail.
She likes meeting new people and talking to them she said. She was telling me about being here at the inn last year with her husband on a motorcycle.
She had gotten up early and was walking around when she saw the door to the third floor suite was open. She was just going to peep inside and take a look when the people inside saw her. They invited her to join them for breakfast. They didn't know she wasn't a professional massage therapist but she had told them she was just out riding her motorcycle. She enjoyed meeting these people and hearing their stories about their work.
I asked her about her career and she said she was a library director for a library in East Tennessee. I told her I was also a librarian and we talked about our jobs for awhile.
I asked her what her ideal job would be if she could choose and her answer was her dream job would be to write a travel blog about all the exciting places that she would visit on a massive travel budget. She said one of the most weirdest things she had ever eaten was on one of her trips was snails in butter garlic.
I hope that our friendhip can continue after this week.

New experiences
My hardest thing to do is standing up and talking in front of people like we did today, has anyone else experienced this? I really enjoyed meeting new people today and learning of their experiences in
their libraries. I found out there is different levels of experience between us which I think is good,
since we can help each other.
