Today Cathy Seal, our presenter , had us to close our eyes and remember something that had touched us emotionally at our library. I remembered a lady who had been coming to the library for years with her daughter.
She came in the library with her hands shaking and trembling. She told me she had come from the doctor's office and he told her she had terminal cancer and had a short time to live. She told me how much she had enjoyed coming to the library over the years and thanked me for always being so nice to her.
I would have to say what inspired me was her courage. She had stopped by to fax some papers to another doctor. I faxed them for her and didn't charge her because I knew she would need her money for medical expenses to come. There are some things much more important than money.
Great demonstration of servant leadership. Touching story. Gail
ReplyDeleteBeing appreciated by customers who have such a horrible illness and is still able to come in and tell you is wonderful. They must have so much repect for you and your staff. That is so great. Way to go girl.
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple gift you gave her by not charging for the fax! And what a difference it probably made to her. Little kindnesses are sometimes all it takes for a person to persevere through very tough times. I am proud to know such a caring and considerate person.
